Glazed Atrium
The Court Apartments at Queen Ethelburgas Collegiate has been through an incredible transformation – 300 rooms have been refurbished, along with a new third floor extension with a central atrium and recreational space.
All Things Glass Ltd of Thirsk, contacted us to provide assistance with the design and build of the new glazed atrium. We supplied our knowledge of best practice, structural calculations and all steelwork required for the installation.
The build of the new atrium required a balustrade and glazed element within the courtyard and the first and second floor levels. We provided calculations for the following information:
The number and locations of the glazing fixture points
Glazing thickness
The bolt fixings
Thickness of plate welded between the bean flanges
Spacing required for handrail brackets
Amendment to the existing structure for torsional resistance
